Piano Factory Bridge to be replaced!

Network Rail has issued a notice of forthcoming works to inform businesses and residents that the Piano Factory Bridge in Lower Trostre Rd is to be replaced.

The notice says that the work has been identified following an assessment of the current condition of the structure and this essential planned work is now required to ensure the safe and continued running highway crossing the railway at this location.

Works are now planned to start on site in January 2012 and will be completed in April 2012. They will confirm the exact completion dates in due course.

Motorists are informed to be aware that Lower Trostre Road will be closed from February to April 2012 to allow plant and machinery to operate. For vehicle traffic, there will be a fully signed diversionary route in place, but for pedestrians a crossing over the railway will be maintained using a temporary footbridge.

The majority of the works will take place in daylight hours (typically 07:30 – 18:00) Monday to Friday, but there will also be a requirement to work some weekend shifts which will involve night time working.

Under the conditions of their licence agreement, they are contractually obliged to work, whenever possible, at times that cause the least disruption to train services.  This means carrying out some of the work during the night and at weekends when trains do not usually run.

They are also advising residents that that the weekend of 3rd – 5th March 2012 will be the peak time for construction activities as this is when the demolition and reconstruction of the railway bridge will take place and they will be working from 22:00 on the Friday until 06:00 on the Monday.

Network Rail would also like to point out that due to the equipment which will be used , that some disturbance is unavoidable. However, they assure residents that the site team will make every effort to minimise any unnecessary noise while working and they will be briefed on working both responsibly and respectfully in the local community.

As a resident of Lower Trostre Road I appreciate that the bridge was well overdue repair. Due to the build of the new "Trostre Retail Park" the residents in Lower Trostre Road have had to endure an enormous increas of traffic.
My main concern is once the new bridge is built will the weight restriction be lifted, or will we have to put up with heavy goods vehicles on the road, as well as the cars.
