Save money by reducing your food waste
THE ‘Love Food Hate Waste’ roadshow is coming to Carmarthenshire.
Carmarthenshire County Council has teamed up with Waste Awareness Wales to bring the roadshow to the St Elli Shopping Centre in Llanelli on Wednesday, September 19.
It will include cookery demonstrations, help and advice on how you can reduce your food waste and save money, as well as free giveaways.
Radio Carmarthenshire’s Carl Hartley will be broadcasting live from the St Elli Centre and taking part in a Ready Steady Cook-type ‘Cook-off’ along with Scarlets stars Morgan Stoddart and Gareth Owen and Llanelli Star reporter Laura Burnip.
The council’s Executive Board Member for Street Scene Cllr Colin Evans said: “We are delighted to be teaming up with Waste Awareness Wales to bring this free event to Llanelli.
“It will show us how we can make the most of the food we normally throw away to cook delicious meals and save money.
“Professional chefs will give demonstrations to show how leftovers can be made into meals as well as sharing practical advice on how to plan meals, work out portion sizes, understand date labels and store food correctly to make it last longer.”
Figures show that in Wales we buy, and then waste, around £600 million every year on food and drink that could have been eaten.
That's an average of £420 per household per year and for households with children it’s even more at around £610 a year.
The roadshow is being held from 10am to 4pm.
