College footballers' first game in new league

Coleg Sir Gâr’s Football Academy played Bath City Academy in their first game of a new season as they stepped out into a new league.

The college squad is this year representing the south-west division in the FA Elite League, which college coaches are brandishing a step forward for the academy.

The game started with a very fast pace and within the first 20 minutes Sir Gâr was under pressure but not without some brave and physical defending from Ryan Evans and Sion Howells.   Bath scored on the half-hour mark with a good cross and finish by their number 10, leading to a half-time score of  1-0.

The second-half began to look more promising for the Llanelli team, with Sam Wilson and Ross Jones causing Bath to break their play.  Sam Wilson scored a great goal on the 60 minute mark to pull Sir Gâr to a level score.  Five minutes later, a determined Sion Williams put Sir Gâr ahead against the run of play, but Bath put Sir Gâr under pressure again and scored their second goal on the 75 minute mark.  The game looked like a 2-2 draw but in the last 10 minutes, Sir Gâr’s Declan Banfield lifted the score, but the lead was out of reach as Bath scored again, resulting in the match’s final score of 3-3.

Jonathan Garcia, director of football said:  “This was a great team performance from Sir Gâr in their first game of the season; they showed good pace and real determination.  I’m confident that the consistency of this full-bodied performance will develop throughout the league.”
