KEITH DAVIES CONTINUES COASTGUARD FIGHTLlanelli Labour AM has joined forces with AMs from across the south west Wales area to continue the fight against Westminster Government plans to close Swansea Coastguard station.Following the confirmation earlier this week by Shipping Minister Mike Penning, that Swansea would close, Keith Davies joined other Assembly Members in raising a Statement of Opinion which called upon the Welsh Government to make urgent representations to the UK Government to immediately reverse this decision. Keith Davies AM said: "The Swansea Coastguard provides a much valued service to those who use our coastline and it is responsible for the Carmarthenshire coast around Llanelli, Burry Port and Kidwelly. "The campaign slogan 'Local Knowledge Saves Lives' is still a strong message and a valid argument as we continue to oppose these cuts. Our local co-ordinators have a deep knowledge of our coastline and the dangers it can pose. The Burry inlet is known for its difficult tides and dangerous sands, two factors responsible for countless rescues co-ordinated by Swansea Coastguards over the years. "It's that local knowledge at the co-ordination centre, supported by hard working volunteers in the RNLI that result in successful rescues."
