Department of Energy and Climate Change This is a newly created Government department which brings together much of the Climate Change Group previously housed within the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and the Energy Group from the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR). Committee on Climate Change The Committee on Climate Change (CCC) is an independent body established under the Climate Change Act to advise the Government on setting carbon budgets and to report to Parliament on the progress made in reducing greenhouse gas emissions IPCC: Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change The role of the IPCC is to assess on a comprehensive, objective, open and transparent basis the scientific, technical and socio-economic information relevant to understanding the scientific basis of risk of human-induced climate change, its potential impacts and options for adaptation and mitigation. The IPCC does not carry out research itself nor does it monitor climate data. UKCIP: The UK’s Climate Change Programme The UK Climate Impacts Programme brings together research, predictions and guidance on climate change. Energy Saving Trust The Energy Saving Trust provides information and advice on energy efficiency in the home. Carbon Trust The Carbon Trust helps business and the public sector cut carbon emissions and supports the development of low carbon technologies. Hadley Centre for Climate Prediction and Research Based in Exeter, this world –class centre produces data and guidance on the science of climate change. Their work includes the further understanding of natural climate change, the development of climate models and the computer simulation of regional and global climates to predict change over the next 100 years. Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research The Tyndall Centre brings together scientists, economists, engineers and social scientist who together are working to develop sustainable responses to climate change through research and dialogue at a national and international level. Cambridge Centre for Climate Change Mitigation Research The centre carries out research to inform national and international policy-making BBC weather This website has a useful section on climate change directed at a general audience. Direct Government Government guidance on many aspects of greener living. www.direct.gov.uk/environmentandgreenerliving Construction Industry Research and Information Association (CIRIA) CIRIA works with the construction industry, government and academia to provide performance improvement products and services in the construction and related industries. It provides comprehensive guidance on flooding. National Trust This website has a useful section on climate change and how it might impact on the Trust’s management of buildings and land. SPAB (The Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings) The society provides much useful guidance and advice on appropriate repairs to traditional buildings.
